About the Instructors

Mors Kochanski is known throughout North America for his extensive work in outdoor education and survival and wilderness living.  He is especially familiar to outdoor enthusiasts in north central Alberta, where he has lived and worked for the past 30 years.  His enthusiasm for wilderness recreation, his extensive knowledge of the field, and his desire to learn everything there is to know about the wilderness has made him one of the foremost authorities on wilderness skills.
        Mors Kochanski is the former editor of Alberta Wilderness Arts and Recreation.  He was formerly Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Physical Education at the University of Alberta. He has written Northern Bushcraft (newest printing is now Bushcraft), Bush Arts and has recently released 4 instructional videos and 10 pocket books on Wilderness Living skills.  In December of 1999, plant identification  instructional videos will be released.


Adrian Breeuwsma has been flintknapping for 10 years now.  Adrian started training in flintknapping at the age of 15 and has continued since. He has knowledge and passion for this primitive art form and creates beautiful pieces from obisidian.  Adrian is now married to Sarah and has a daughter (Makena).  They live and work in Edmonton.  You can check out the Flintknapping Page for some of Adrian's work.

Robert Dale Rogers has been a student of herbal medicines for over 30 years; with a clinical practice for 16 years.  He specializes in the plants of the Northern Prairie and Boreal Forest of Canada.  He is a professional member of the American Herbalist Guild and the author of five books on indigenous and introduced plants hardy in zones 1-3.  He is a guest lecturer at the University of Alberta in Edmonton; and a consultant to the growing herbal and nutraceutical industry in Western Canada.  With his wife Laurie, they teach at the Prairie Deva College of Aromatherapy, Phytotherapy and Soul Tending; offering classes in essential oils, flower essences, herbal medicines and dreamwork.  Robert has recently published a new book called "The Fungal Pharmacy; Medicinal Mushrooms of Western Canada".



Karamat Wilderness Way is Randy and Lori Breeuwsma.  Randy is a braintanner and primitive skills and modern survival practitioner.  Lori is into natural crafting, crafting, primitive skills, and the needle arts.
  In September of 1996, the Provincial Museum of Alberta commissioned them to build a 22 foot moose hide tipi along with 13 other replicas, which they completed for the museum's opening of the New Aboriginal Gallery in November of 1997.
  They make replicas in various mediums, ship world wide and offer many different courses.
